Founded in 1962, Highcliffe Sailing Club's prime coastal location on Mudeford Quay allows the club to offer sailing in the sheltered waters of Christchurch Harbour and open water sailing in Christchurch Bay. This makes it an ideal club for sailors of all abilities and aspirations. There are plenty of opportunities for those who wish to sail competitively, with racing every weekend from March to December. The harbour fleet is made up of slower handicap boats, including Mirrors, Lasers, Solos. Out to sea there are Catamaran and Contender fleets along with fast and slow handicap fleets including Finns and single handed Lasers and a variety of assymetric spinnaker momohulls including the RYA Junior FEVA class.
Besides club racing many members compete at National events and the club itself regularly organises National and International events. Training sessions are regularly organised for beginners and Junior race training in "Toppers" and "Pico's". Juniors are encouraged to join the Junior section and to take part in the fortnightly training sessions. Highcliffe Sailing Club has a friendly and informal atmosphere. It is predominately a family club with members of all ages and from a wide variety of backgrounds. All members are invited to help with running the club; it's a good way to meet people and it's fun to be involved. Social events are organised throughout the year including barn dances, talks, beach barbecues and the annual dinner dance and prize giving in November.
The club is accessible to members every day of the week, there are no restrictions on when members may sail. Windsurfers/Kite boarders are also very welcome. Dinghy racing is on Sundays and midweek evenings during the summer.
