University of the Third Age, Christchurch District Updated on 13/03/2008
Learning opportunities for those no longer in full-time paid employment. Our name indicates that, after the 'first age' of childhood and full-time education, and the 'second age' of work and raising a family, there comes the 'third age' of retirement when people are free to get together to follow interests for which they may previously not have had time. No entry qualifications are required, no certificates or diplomas are awarded, and there are no examinations. In U3A there is no distinction between those who learn and those who teach. Group leaders and tutors are members, and are often students in other groups. The main aim of the U3A is to advance the education of retired people and assist them in pursuing their interests within a social environment. It is run by members for members.
