The Mission to Seafarers' origins go back to 1835. It is a voluntary society of the Anglican Church. It is at work in some 300 ports around the world. In over 100 of these ports it runs seafarers' centres, many of them in partnership with other Churches. Each year, through their network of chaplains, lay staff and volunteers, they hold 1,950 Communion and other services attended by 10,000 seafarers; visit 800 seafarers in hospital; make 75,000 ship visits; help 170,000 seafarers contact home by telephone or email; provide transport for 280,000 seafarers; help in 500 welfare cases and 650 justice cases; distribute thousands of Bibles and Christian leaflets in different languages; welcome over one million seafarers to their centres.

Founded 127 years ago, the Mothers' Union now has over 3 million members in 70+ countries throughout the World. Its aim is to promote the Christian principles of stable family life and the care and protection of children. This is achieved through Prayer, supplemented by numerous practical projects providing direct support to individuals or families in adversity. Recent initiatives, for example, are the provision of 'parenting' courses (including the nurture of children) and the introduction in third world countries of locally based adult literacy guidance. (Weymouth Branches support this financially.) Local branches are based on the Parish Churches and usually meet monthly.
